Safety Engineer
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the project.
- Ensure compliance with project HSE requirements, applicable Qatar regulations, and international safety standards.
- Develop, implement, and monitor project HSE plans, procedures, and safety programs.
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments.
- Review and monitor Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSA), and Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems.
- Identify potential hazards and ensure appropriate corrective and preventive measures are implemented.
- Monitor contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with approved HSE requirements.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare and maintain HSE reports, inspection records, statistics, and other required documentation.
- Conduct and coordinate toolbox talks, safety inductions, training, and awareness programs.
- Participate in project meetings and provide professional advice on HSE-related matters.
- Monitor emergency preparedness and ensure emergency response procedures are implemented and regularly tested.
- Follow up on HSE observations, non-conformities, and corrective actions until closure.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the project workforce.
- Liaise with the Project Management Team, consultants, contractors, and relevant authorities on HSE matters.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field — BSc, BEng, BA, or equivalent preferred.
- Relevant Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) certifications will be an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 15 years of overall professional experience.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in a similar Senior Safety Engineer / HSE role.
- Experience in major construction, infrastructure, building, or similar projects is preferred.
- Qatar/GCC project experience will be an added advantage.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of construction/project safety management practices.
- Good understanding of risk assessment, hazard identification, incident investigation, and safety auditing.
- Ability to review technical and HSE documentation.
- Strong communication, coordination, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
Preferred
- Experience working on large-scale construction/infrastructure projects.
- GCC/Qatar experience.
- Professional HSE certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent.
