Job Description – Rigging Team Leader

Position Title : Rigging Team Leader
Location : Mesaieed, Qatar
Working Hours : 08 Hours per Day, 05 Days per Week
Contract Duration :01 Month (Extendable)

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Rigging Team Leader to lead and supervise rigging, lifting, shifting, loading, off-loading, jacking, and sliding activities within refinery and oil & gas facilities. The successful candidate will ensure that all lifting operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with QatarEnergy lifting standards, company procedures, and HSE requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise all rigging and lifting activities in refinery and oil & gas operational areas.
  • Coordinate with Rigging Supervisors and site personnel to ensure safe execution of lifting operations.
  • Conduct site inspections to identify hazards and assess risks before commencing work.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of lifting plans, risk assessments, method statements, and Job Safety Analyses (JSA).
  • Select appropriate lifting equipment, rigging gear, tools, and tackles based on load requirements and site conditions.
  • Interpret and understand lifting plans, engineering drawings, crane load charts, and related documentation.
  • Conduct Toolbox Talks (TBT) and safety briefings before work activities and maintain proper records.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Permit to Work (PTW) requirements, safety procedures, and lifting regulations.
  • Supervise routine and non-routine maintenance lifting activities, including:
    • Pumps and motors
    • Valves and piping spools
    • Heat exchangers and exchanger bundles
    • Fin fan coolers
    • Blowers and rotating equipment
    • Bearings and mechanical components
  • Monitor lifting operations to ensure adherence to approved lifting plans and safe work practices.
  • Provide clear instructions and guidance to riggers, crane operators, and support personnel.
  • Ensure all lifting equipment and accessories are inspected and certified prior to use.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Rigging Supervisor regarding work progress, challenges, and scheduling requirements.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and restoration of work areas upon completion of activities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and immediately report unsafe conditions or incidents.

Educational Qualification

  • Secondary School (10th Grade) or Higher Secondary School (12th Grade).
  • Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Certificate or equivalent technical qualification preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 8–15 years of experience in rigging and lifting operations within the Oil & Gas, Refinery, Petrochemical, or Industrial sectors.
  • Proven experience in supervising complex lifting and rigging activities in operational facilities.

Certification Requirements

  • Valid Rigging Certification from an approved Third-Party Inspection (TPI) body.
  • Relevant rigging and lifting operation certificates.
  • Valid H₂S Safety Certification.
  • Additional safety certifications related to lifting operations will be an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of QatarEnergy lifting equipment standards and procedures.
  • Excellent understanding of lifting plans, crane charts, load calculations, and rigging techniques.
  • Ability to identify hazards and implement effective risk control measures.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and team coordination skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work in high-risk industrial environments while maintaining strict safety compliance.
  • Sound knowledge of PTW systems, risk assessments, and safe lifting practices.
