Job Description:

Job Purpose

The Roustabout is an entry-level offshore rig worker responsible for general labor, deck operations, and assisting the drilling crew. This position plays a key role in maintaining safe, clean, and efficient rig operations while supporting the overall drilling and maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Deck Operations

  • Assist in loading and unloading supply vessels.

  • Handle, move, and store drilling materials, pipes, and equipment.

  • Secure cargo using slings, chains, and lifting gear under supervision.

2. Rig Maintenance & Cleaning

  • Clean and maintain rig decks, machinery, and work areas.

  • Perform chipping, painting, and other surface maintenance tasks.

  • Conduct basic repairs or maintenance as instructed by supervisors.

3. Drilling Support

  • Assist derrickhands and roughnecks during drilling and pipe handling operations.

  • Help in the mixing and handling of drilling fluids (mud) when required.

  • Support other drilling activities as part of the crew.

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all HSE regulations and operator-specific safety policies (e.g., QatarEnergy, Shell).

  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency drills (fire, man overboard, etc.).

  • Use proper PPE at all times and report any unsafe conditions immediately.

5. General Labor

  • Operate basic rig machinery (e.g., forklifts, winches, pumps) if trained and certified.

  • Assist in waste handling and ensure environmental compliance.

  • Support other departments as needed for smooth rig operations.

Requirements

Experience:

  • No prior offshore experience required (offshore or industrial experience preferred).

  • Basic understanding of rig operations and equipment handling is an advantage.

Certifications:

  • Valid BOSIET/FOET with HUET (mandatory for offshore Qatar).

  • H2S Awareness and Basic Firefighting certifications (preferred).

Skills:

  • Physically fit, safety-conscious, and able to work in a demanding offshore environment.

  • Good teamwork, communication, and willingness to learn.

  • Ability to follow instructions and adapt to shift-based offshore schedules.

Additional Information

This is an entry-level position with opportunities for career progression into drilling or maintenance roles. The role follows a 35/35 rotational schedule and requires strict adherence to offshore safety and operational standards.
