Job Description:
Job Title: Gas Watcher (OPCO Approved)
Job Purpose
To perform atmospheric gas testing and continuous monitoring of work areas to ensure a safe working environment during hot work, confined space entry, and other hazardous activities in compliance with OPCO, Qatar Energy, and site safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct atmospheric gas testing using approved gas detection equipment before and during work activities.
- Monitor oxygen levels, flammable gases, and toxic gases in designated work areas.
- Maintain continuous gas monitoring during hot work, confined space entry, and other permit-controlled activities.
- Verify that atmospheric conditions remain within acceptable safety limits.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, abnormal gas readings, or hazardous situations to the Permit Holder, Supervisor, or Safety Officer.
- Stop work and initiate emergency procedures when unsafe gas levels are detected.
- Ensure gas detection equipment is calibrated, functional, and properly maintained.
- Record gas test readings accurately and maintain gas monitoring logs and reports.
- Coordinate with Permit Holders, Safety Officers, and work crews to ensure compliance with permit requirements.
- Attend toolbox talks, safety meetings, and site safety briefings.
- Follow all OPCO, Qatar Energy, client, and company HSE regulations and procedures.
- Maintain vigilance throughout the assigned shift and remain at designated monitoring locations as required.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of gas detection equipment and atmospheric testing procedures.
- Understanding of confined space entry and hot work safety requirements.
- Ability to identify hazardous atmospheres and respond appropriately.
- Good observation, communication, and reporting skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
- Ability to work in industrial and offshore/onshore operational environments.
Educational Qualification
- High School Certificate or Diploma preferred.
Experience Required
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in industrial, oil & gas, petrochemical, LNG, or construction environments.
Certification Requirements
- Valid OPCO Approved Gas Watcher Certification.
- QatarEnergy, LNG, or equivalent approved certification preferred.
- Valid safety training certificates as required by the project/client.
Language Requirement
- Basic English communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking).
