QA/QC Supervisor
Job Description:
Objective of the Role:
To ensure that all construction, installation, and commissioning activities are performed in accordance with the project quality plan, approved procedures, drawings, specifications, and relevant international codes and standards. The QA/QC Inspector is the frontline guardian of quality and integrity on the project.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
Inspection & Verification:
- Conduct routine and witness inspections for all mechanical, piping, structural, and electrical/instrumentation disciplines. This includes:
- Materials: Verifying material certifications (MTCs), material traceability, and proper storage.
- Coatings & Linings: Inspection of surface preparation (blasting), coating thickness (DFT), adhesion, and holiday detection.
- Installation: Dimensional checks, bolt torquing, equipment alignment, grouting, and installation per drawings.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Witnessing NDT activities (RT, UT, MPI, LPT) and interpreting reports.
- Electrical: Inspection of cable laying, terminations, grounding, and equipment installation.
- Commissioning: Verifying cleanliness, tightness, and readiness of systems for handover.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Complete and maintain accurate inspection records, Inspection Test Reports (ITRs), and Quality Dossiers.
- Report and document any non-conformances (NCRs), initiate corrective action requests (CARs), and verify the implementation of corrective actions.
- Review and verify contractor/subcontractor quality documentation for compliance.
Surveillance & Auditing:
- Monitor the implementation of the Quality Management System (QMS) by all project personnel.
- Conduct surveillance audits of work areas and processes to ensure compliance with specified requirements.
Coordination & Communication:
- Liaise with construction supervisors, client representatives, and third-party inspectors to coordinate inspection activities.
- Attend daily coordination meetings to report on quality status, issues, and upcoming inspection hold points.
- Clearly communicate quality requirements and standards to the construction workforce.
Safety:
- Ensure all inspection activities are carried out in compliance with project HSE procedures.
- Promote a culture of quality and safety on the worksite.
Qualifications & Experience:
Mandatory:
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Metallurgy, or related field).
- Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of experience in a QA/QC inspection role within the oil and gas industry.
- EPC Project Experience: Must have proven experience on major EPC offshore projects through the construction and commissioning phases.
- Certifications: Hold valid internationally recognized certification(s) such as:
- BGAS or NACE for coating inspection.
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification is highly advantageous.
Preferred:
- Middle East Experience: Prior experience working on projects in Middle East UAE, Qatar or KSA.
- Multi-discipline knowledge: Understanding of multiple disciplines (Welding, Piping, Coatings, E&I) is a significant advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
- Expert Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of relevant international codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI, ISO, NACE).
- Meticulous Attention to Detail: Unwavering focus on identifying defects and non-compliances.
- Integrity: Must be unwavering in upholding quality standards, even under pressure.
- Strong Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to clearly explain technical issues and enforce requirements with construction crews and management.
- Proactive & Assertive: Ability to identify potential quality issues before they occur.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and experience with project Document Management Systems (DMS).
Certifications & Requirements (To be provided/funded by Client):
- Valid BOSEIT (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training) certificate.
- Valid OGUK or project-approved offshore medical certificate.
- Certifications in H2S Awareness, Fire Fighting, and Sea Survival (HUET).
