Mechanical Technician / Pump Technician
Job Description:
Job Purpose
To perform hands-on maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all mechanical utility systems, with a primary focus on pumps, motors, piping, valves, and mechanical seals, ensuring the continuous flow of water and other essential fluids throughout the facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Pump and Motor Maintenance: Conduct routine Preventive Maintenance (PM), overhaul, alignment, and repair of various types of pumps (e.g., centrifugal, submersible, booster, circulation) and their associated electric motors.
- Piping and Plumbing Repair: Troubleshoot and fix leaks in water, sewage, and fire-fighting piping systems. Repair and replace mechanical components such as valves, gaskets, pipe sections, and mechanical seals.
- Mechanical Systems Support: Assist the Mechanical Engineer in the maintenance and repair of other mechanical equipment, including water heaters, cooling tower components, pressure regulators, and domestic water systems.
- Welding and Fabrication: Perform basic welding and pipe fitting tasks necessary for system repairs and modifications.
- Vibration and Alignment: Use specialized tools to perform vibration analysis and laser alignment on rotating equipment to ensure smooth operation and prevent premature wear.
- Safety and Documentation: Adhere strictly to LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures and other safety protocols when working on mechanical systems. Accurately document all work orders, maintenance logs, and inventory parts used.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Technical diploma or vocational certificate in Mechanical Technology, Millwright, Pipe Fitting, or a related trade.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a Mechanical Technician, focusing heavily on the maintenance and repair of industrial or commercial pumping systems and fluid transfer networks.
- Skills:
- Expertise in pump disassembly, inspection, reassembly, and troubleshooting for common faults (e.g., cavitation, vibration, seal failure).
- Proficiency in mechanical measuring tools, precision alignment techniques, and rigging/lifting procedures.
- Strong knowledge of piping materials, joining methods, and valve operation (e.g., gate, globe, check valves).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
